About Me — Kate Douthat

I am a graduate student in the program for Ecology and Evolution at Rutgers. My research focuses on the ecosystem functions of urban plants in stormwater basins. I am studying the ability of plants to filter stormwater, and the role of the stormwater network in supporting wetland plant biodiversity. I a Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Botany in Action Fellow (2018-2020). In 2019-2020 I am the proud teaching assistant for the Plant Ecology and Freshwater Ecology courses at Rutgers. You can find me in the Hartman lab at 130 Blake Hall.

I am a graduate student in the Ecology and Evolution program at Rutgers, New Brunswick, NJ. I am in Dr. Jean Marie Hartman’s lab, along with fellow PhD candidate Johnny Quispe. We study wetland restoration, plants, and their roles in resilience to environmental disturbance. We also look at watershed pattern and process at the regional scale. Our tools include field work, lab work, and geospatial analysis and modeling.

I am a graduate teaching assistant in plant ecology and freshwater ecology. I am currently a Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Botany in Action Fellow.
